CONSENT APPLICATIONS
Environmental consents (or permits) are often required for complex activities that may impact the environment. Environmental consents are applied for by means of permit applications. The process for this is often specified. Under certain circumstances, permit applications are mere ‘ticks in the box’, but I usually welcome them as environmental management opportunities, largely because they are opportunities to communicate and improve mutual understanding, although they also present great opportunities to discuss and enhance options for mitigating environmental impact.
Being a formal legal instrument, the application of consents can be inflexible and it is the challenge to turn the process around from compliance driven to two-way communication. Please follow the links below for demonstrations of this.
